Vidraru Lake is a reservoir created in 1965 by the dam Vidraru in Arges , on the Arges River , for energy supply , irrigation and flood prevention. Also, the lake and adjacent installations are used for recreation, tourism and sports.
Situated between mountains forehead and Massif Ghiţu lake collects rivers Capra , Buda and several direct tributaries ( River Lady , Cernatul and Valsan , topology , Valea lui Stan and Limpedea ), with a total flow of about 5.5 m 3 / s .
The total area of the lake is 893 ha , length of 10.3 km , maximum width of 2.2 km in the Wolf Valley - nun and a circumference of 28 km. Maximum water depth is 155 m dam 166 m high curved, length at crest of 307 meters. Water volume is 465 million m³. The normal level of retention is 830.00 meters above sea level (ASL).
Vidraru dam construction lasted five and a half years starting in 1960 [1] . For this embodiment were required 42 km of tunnel have been excavated to 1.768 million m 3 of rock, of which about 1 million underground were cast 930,000 m 3 of concrete of which 400,000 m 3 underground and also they were installed 6300 tons of electromechanical equipment.
On completion it stood, measured height, about 8th in Europe and ranks 20th in the world .
The dam can be practiced extreme sport of bungee jumping [2] .
In an average hydrological year, Vidraru hydroelectric power plant located underground and can produce electricity for about 400 GWh. It has an installed capacity of 220 MW .
From the town of Curtea de Arges coming toward DN1 (common Cârţişoara , SB ), going through to Vidraru hydropower plant, the dam, followed by right Vidraru Lake is spectacular Transfăgărăşan (DN7C) .
